THE OTHERS VOICE Is Gruesome, Bloody Fun

A normal family. A whole lot of spiders. And an evil, controlling force that will stop at nothing to cause murder and destruction. These are the three things that compromise THE OTHERS VOICE from first time novelist LOU YARDLEY. In this shock a minute book you’ll be terrified, relieved, and trying not to lose your lunch. And all of these things will happen within a few pages time!

A seemingly normal family comes under attack from an unseen entity that is hell bent on murdering them all in the most horrible ways possible. This “Other” can slip in and out of their minds at will, making them perform these deeds for him. The family includes a mother, father and step father, son, daughter and step daughter, and a toddler and each one is important to this story. Whether that means they are the hunted or the hunters is up to this “Other”.

Let’s be clear here. If you hate or have a deep seeded fear of spiders, THE OTHERS VOICE will NOT help you overcome that fear at all. In fact, you may never want to go outside ever again for fear of running into one of these eight legged friends of ours. If you don’t suffer from that particular fear, well, THE OTHERS VOICE might change that!

Not only can the “Other” control his human playthings, he can control whatever else he wants. And in this case, it’s spiders. LOTS of spiders. Literally THOUSANDS of them are used in this book in a way that will make your skin crawl and have you slapping yourself fairly hard every time you get an itch. You know, just in case it’s a spider.

Th great thing about THE OTHERS VOICE is how, after we’re introduced to the family, things start taking a turn for the worse almost immediately. You are whipped in the middle of what appears to be hell on Earth along with the family and you will be horrified. As an example there is one part that involves a character sticking themselves in the eyeball with a sword and plopping it out on the ground. Gruesome? Yes. But that’s nothing compared to what happens after that. And that’s saying something because sticking yourself in the eyeball and pulling it out is something that should be hard to top, gore wise.

But author LOU YARDLEY channels her inner psychopath and ups the crimson stuff with every turn of the page. As each atrocity to this family unfolds, you’ll think you’ve read it all. And you’ll be wrong. THE OTHERS VOICE is not only for the gore hounds among us, but it also features a family who are willing to do anything to protect each other even when it’s clear there is no protection available. People will die….brutally. And people will live to fight. And the “hero” may not be who you’d think. But they will never let each other go and that’s just as much a message in this book as the horrors.

Keep in mind this is only the first book in the OTHERS VOICE series. And Lou is currently at work on her second installment. And I will be along for this thrill ride every page of the way. If you like your horror bloody and brutal with a supernatural element at its core, you should buy THE OTHERS VOICE right away. It’s a great book in general, but for being a first novel it exceeds expectations.
